Habit and Institutoptico launch IO Segurança: a new embedded insurance for eyewear

Institutoptico, one of the largest optical retail networks in Portugal, and Habit, an insurtech specialized in the digital distribution of insurance and subscriptions, have announced a strategic new partnership with the launch of IO Segurança — an innovative insurance solution fully integrated into the in-store shopping experience.

With 12- or 24-month plans and coverage of up to €1,999, IO Segurança protects prescription glasses and sunglasses against accidental damage, breakage, theft or robbery — both in Portugal and abroad. Subscription is simple, immediate, and done directly at the point of purchase in Institutoptico stores, with no need for simulations or bureaucratic processes.
“The trust of our customers is an asset we want to continuously protect and strengthen,” says Luís Lucas, manager at Institutoptico. “With this solution, we take another step towards a comprehensive, customer-focused service, raising the level of peace of mind and value we deliver.”
For Habit, this partnership represents the integration of a new vertical into its insurance distribution network. “This isn’t just about adding a product — it’s about creating a seamless, digital, and relevant experience that protects what matters to the consumer,” says João Madureira Pinto, Chief Growth Officer at Habit. “It’s another clear example of how contextual insurance can deliver real value in people’s everyday lives.”
Claims management is equally straightforward: customers can visit any Institutoptico store with their insurance certificate and proof of purchase to start the repair or replacement process, with quick response and direct in-store support.
This collaboration strengthens both brands’ positions as trusted innovators in their respective sectors and marks another step forward in the expansion of embedded insurance in Portugal.
